Modification and Applications of High‐Performance Fiber‐Reinforced Polyimide Composites: A Review

ABSTRACT

Polyimide stands at the pinnacle of high‐performance polymer materials due to its exceptional heat resistance, mechanical strength, chemical stability, and dielectric properties, earning it recognition as one of the most promising specialty engineering plastics of the 21st century. However, issues such as high thermal expansion, brittleness, high cost, complex processing, and limited functionality hinder its adaptability to diverse real‐world conditions, restricting its widespread application in complex scenarios. Fiber reinforcement emerges as a key approach to enhance its overall performance. This paper thoroughly details polyimide preparation methods, comprehensively compares the advantages and limitations of different approaches, and subsequently focuses on analyzing the classification and current applications of fiber‐reinforced polyimide composites. It dissects the primary challenges facing current research and concludes by outlining future research directions in this field, aiming to provide reference for in‐depth exploration and practical application in related work.
