MODERN APPROACHES TO THE ASSESSMENT OF BIODEGENERATION OF MAGNESIUM ALLOY DEVICES: A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY IN VIVO
N. RED'KO, K. KUNIZhEV, D. LEZhNEV, E. EGOROVA, Alexey DrobyshevModern medicine is actively developing biodegradable implants eliminating the need for reoperations. Magnesium alloys which combine durability, biocompatibility and controlled degradation are of particular importance. However, their use is complicated by formation of the gas cavities in the corrosion process. The purpose of the study was to make lifetime assessment of the volume of gas cavity formed in the area around magnesium alloy miniscrews with chipping-off heads used in maxillofacial surgery for osteosynthesis. In the experiment with 26 rats multi-slice computed tomography and 3D-reconstruction were used in the course of 1–4 weeks
