miR‐1246 as a Diagnostic, Prognostic, and Therapeutic Biomarker in Breast Cancer: A Narrative Review With Pharmacoeconomic Perspectives

ABSTRACT

Background and Aims

MicroRNA‐1246 (miR‐1246) has emerged as an important regulatory molecule in breast cancer, with growing evidence supporting its role in diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic response. This review aims to evaluate the diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic significance of miR‐1246 in breast cancer and to assess its potential pharmacoeconomic impact on clinical practice.

Methods

A narrative review was conducted using a structured literature search of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. Study identification and selection were informed by PRISMA screening principles to enhance transparency and reproducibility; however, this review was not conducted as a formal systematic review or meta‐analysis. Studies investigating miR‐1246 expression patterns, associations with clinicopathological features, patient outcomes, therapeutic responses, and pharmacoeconomic aspects, including cost‐effectiveness of diagnostic and therapeutic applications, were included.

Results

Elevated miR‐1246 expression was consistently associated with aggressive breast cancer phenotypes, particularly triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC), and poorer clinical outcomes. Several studies demonstrated that targeting miR‐1246 enhances the efficacy of hormone therapy and immunotherapy, suggesting a role in overcoming treatment resistance. Pharmacoeconomic evaluations indicated that integrating miR‐1246 into diagnostic and therapeutic strategies may have the potential to be cost‐effective, provided that future economic evaluations confirm improvements in early detection and treatment selection.

Conclusion

miR‐1246 shows strong potential as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker and as a therapeutic target in breast cancer. Despite promising findings, further clinical validation and standardized integration into routine practice are required to fully establish its clinical and economic value.
