Methodology for improving the strike accuracy of sabre fencers at the stage of sports specialization based on real-time feedback

Aleksandr Bulochko

The purpose of the study is to develop and experimentally substantiate a methodology for improving strike accuracy based on real‑time feedback. Research methods: pedagogical experiment, pedagogical observations, and mathematical statistics methods were used. The means of real‑time feedback was a patented modernised fencing jacket with differentiated contact areas and an electronic strike registration unit. Research results and conclusions. A methodology for improving strike accuracy in various sectors of the target surface in sabre fencers at the stage of sports specialization was developed, implementing a closed‑loop control of motor action “motor task – execution – urgent information about the result – correction” and including three successive blocks: formation of strike accuracy in individual sectors, formation of the skill of switching between sectors, and formation of the skill of impromptu sector selection in a competitive situation. The application of the methodology over 6 months provided a significant increase in the effectiveness of attacking actions of athletes in the experimental group and the formation of a more uniform distribution of strikes across sectors of the target surface. It was proved that the use of real‑time feedback tools ensures a significant increase in strike accuracy and the effectiveness of attacking actions of sabre fencers.
