Metallicities for a Sample of Praesepe M dwarfs: Comparisons with APOGEE and DESI Results

Abstract

We present a spectroscopic analysis of the SDSS APOGEE spectra of a sample of M dwarf members of the Praesepe open cluster to determine their stellar parameters and metallicities. Spectral synthesis modeling was performed in LTE. Our analysis was based on OH and water lines, using a methodology that has been verified to produce precise stellar parameters for this stellar class. The derived metallicities were compared with results obtained from the APOGEE and DESI public data releases. The comparison with our results shows that both DESI and APOGEE pipeline metallicities present a large scatter. This is especially true for DESI, which also shows a systematic offset and a trend with metallicity when compared to our results.
