Metallic Barium-Promoted Alkylation of Isatin Derivatives

The Barbier-type alkylation of isatin derivatives with alkyl halides, including benzylic halides, was achieved by using metallic barium as the promoter. The reaction is applicable to selected alkyl iodides and benzylic/prenylic bromides under metallic barium-promoted Barbier-type conditions.
