Mental Health-Informed Optimization of Audiovisual Content for Global Communication: Balancing Emotional Needs and Schizophrenia Awareness
Houyu Ge, Zhikang Cui, Siyu ChenAbstract
Objective
This study investigates the relationship between audience emotional needs and artistic content creation in international film/television communication, with special attention to mental health considerations including schizophrenia spectrum disorders. It aims to develop a synergistic optimization model that enhances both psychological well-being and cross-cultural communication effectiveness.
Subjects and Methods
A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining analysis of 50 internationally successful works with empirical research involving 1,200 participants from six cultural regions, including subgroups with mental health conditions. Assessment tools included the Emotional Needs Scale, Mental Health Impact Inventory, and Cross-cultural Content Acceptance Questionnaire, with specific measures for content tolerance relevant to schizophrenia-related sensitivities.
Results
Content addressing universal emotional needs while incorporating mental health-aware design achieved 3.5 times higher acceptance among vulnerable groups. Works balancing cultural specificity (20-30%) with mental health-conscious universal elements (70-80%) showed optimal international appeal and psychological safety. Participants with schizophrenia spectrum conditions reported 40% lower anxiety triggers when content followed mental health guidelines, while general audience satisfaction increased by 45%.
Conclusions
Integrating mental health principles, including schizophrenia-aware design, significantly enhances both international communication effectiveness and psychological well-being. This approach provides a scientifically-grounded framework for content creation that supports mental health while achieving cross-cultural resonance, offering valuable strategies for inclusive global media.
