Mensch und Methode im editorischen Werkzeugkasten

Niklas Fröhlich

Abstract

This article demonstrates how individual historical (as well as contemporary) ‘edenda’ can only be understood against the backdrop of their broader context within the history of disciplines, methods along with institutions and individual scholars – the latter of which were used and discussed regularly as ‘editorial tools’. The argument is developed using examples drawn in particular from the history of the Monumenta Germaniae Historica (especially with regard to Georg Waitz, Theodor Mommsen, and the Chronica Minora ) as well as the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum .
