Media as a Tool for Boosting Commercial Agriculture for Nation Building in Nigeria

MWANSAT S. S, OGBA E. L

This paper explores the usage of the media in enhancing commercial agriculture in Nigeria as a means of boosting the Nigerian economy for nation building. The media is perhaps the most veritable instrument in enhancing the growth of any developing country. It has long been credited with the ability to simultaneously reach a heterogeneous audience with the power to change attitudes, instill the spirit of patriotism, shape lives of citizens, encourage hard work and resilience in nation building. The dwindling of Nigeria's economy due to the instability of crude oil prices in the international market has forced the country to look  inwards if it must build a strong and virile nation. This emerging stride in the country's economic development has caused a review of the Agricultural sector with evolving media programs that are information base, seeking to address the information needs of farmers in order to move agriculture in Nigeria to a commercial level so as to revive the economy and to trigger growth and development. The paper is anchored on the development media theory. This study shows that the media is an important part of every nation's development.
