Mechanochemical Approaches to Amide Bond Formation
Stanisław Kulczyk, Krzysztof Melcer, Artur KasprzakAmide bond formation is one of the most fundamental transformations in synthetic chemistry, playing a crucial role in the synthesis of a wide range of molecules, including peptides, pharmaceuticals, polymers, and organized materials. The rise of mechanochemistry, a nonconventional organic synthesis method offering a wide range of advantages related to improving sustainability and green chemistry metrics of the process, while also boosting reaction outcomes (selectivity, efficiency), has opened new possibilities also in amide bond formation. This review comprehensively discusses the developments in mechanochemical approaches toward amide bond formation, providing a systematic overview of this topic in organic chemistry, presenting achievements over the years, and stimulating future advances.
