Maps, Manuscripts, and Mentors: Passing It On

Daniel Shealy

ABSTRACT

As a mentor once taught me, a scholar’s job, a teacher’s job, is to “pass it along.” Part of that job is to inspire another’s passion. Use the knowledge one has gained to help someone else; the words “scholarship” and “sharing” go hand in hand. Of course, the act of “passing it on” requires trust. But that, too, is a good quality to pass on—trust.
