Manipulation of organic triplet states for achieving multifunctional luminescence: Mechanisms, strategies, and applications
Wenbin Huang, Chenlong Wei, Zikai HeAbstract
Owing to their spin multiplicity and multiple relaxation pathways, organic triplet‐state materials exhibit a wide range of applications spanning optoelectronic devices, photodynamic therapy, luminescent elastomers, and X‐ray scintillators. Despite substantial recent progress in triplet‐state manipulation, fundamental challenges persist in mechanistic understanding, strategy development, and practical application. This review traces the development of the field through the lens of our group's work, weaving together the current state of representative research to summarize efforts over the past decade to regulate triplet‐state behaviors and to highlight advances in mechanistic insight, design strategies, and functional applications. The review focuses on novel relaxation principles, energy transfer processes and anti‐Kasha photophysical behaviors, as well as corresponding luminescent functionalities, with the aims of clarifying structure‐property relationships in organic triplet systems and outlining future research directions.
