Mandatory training in nursing practice: challenges and opportunities for improvement

Mandatory training is a key aspect of nursing practice, aiming to ensure that healthcare professionals maintain competencies crucial to patient safety, professional development and compliance with regulatory requirements. This article discusses the aims of and challenges facing mandatory training in nursing, including the benefits and drawbacks of e-learning as a delivery method. Strategies to improve learning outcomes and promote sustained competence are suggested, including the use of a blended learning approach and the importance of protected time to complete this training. Challenges such as digital exclusion and superficial engagement are also explored.
