Managerial Information Processing Systems and Sustainability Performance: The Roles of Green Exploitation–Exploration and Resource Orchestration

ABSTRACT

In recent years, scholarly attention has increasingly focused on the role of green innovation ambidexterity (GIA) and resource orchestration in improving firms' sustainability performance (SP). However, prior research has largely overlooked managerial information processing as a critical driver shaping these capabilities. Drawing on information processing, dynamic capabilities, and resource orchestration theories, this study investigates how managers' information processing systems shape firms' SP through EGI, ERG, and resource orchestration capability (ROC). Data were collected from 413 firm managers operating in Türkiye and analyzed using consistent partial least squares structural equation modeling with bootstrap mediation analysis. The findings show that analytical information processing systems (AIPS) have significant positive effects on exploitative green innovation (EGI), explorative green innovation (ERG), ROC, and SP. In contrast, experiential information processing systems (EIPS) directly influence only EGI and ROC. The results further reveal that EGI and ROC shape SP, whereas ERG has no significant effect in the baseline specification. By integrating managerial information processing, EGI, ERG, and ROC, this study reveals how firms build cognitively driven green strategies in emerging markets.
