Management of Sustainable Ecosystem for Repurpose Used Cooking Oil

Abstract

Used cooking oil (UCO) or the waste cooking oil (WCO) is reused many times be it in the domestic households or in the establishments of the food and beverage operators (FBOs), small, medium or big. This is due to the conventional custom, the expensiveness of the oils and the lack of awareness of the ill effects that these reused oils can cause. Hence, it becomes essential to bring into limelight the health issues that this practice of reusing the oil can cause and reinforce the users to deposit such used oils for recycling which, in turn, will become biodiesel that is completely usable and beneficial. Having reviewed the existing literature, it is assured that without Triple E strategy – education, enforcement and ecosystem, this process is impossible. This paper intends to formulate the theoretical framework for the Indian urban set up specifically. Further, it will spell out the strategies to make this process methodically possible after comparing the existing practices with respect to UCO collection in various places. To facilitate this, a survey and an interactive session are managed with the participants identified to be the convenient sampling to list the common and layer specific strategies for varied socioeconomic groups. The scope of this study is to nullify the reuse of cooking oil for cooking which can be adopted globally to make eradication of reuse of the cooking oil for cooking as its mission adopting the proposed model.
