Jinal K. Viramagama, Sudipta Kumar Rath, Vaishali Laxman Khatale Abstract
A case of a 30-year-old female with a body mass index (BMI) of 29.87 presented with complaints of body heaviness, knee pain, exertional breathlessness, and lower back pain. She was advised a millet-based diet comprising
Shyamaka
(barnyard millet),
Kodrava
(kodo millet), and
Yavanala
(barley) twice daily, along with lifestyle modifications, for a period of 7 months with regular follow-up. Post-intervention assessment showed improvements in BMI, waist-to-hip ratio, mid-upper arm circumference, and mid-upper thigh circumference. The BMI decreased from 29.87 to 25.79 kg/m
2
, and the Short Form-12 quality of life score improved from 76.02 to 92.22. The patient was advised to continue regular follow-up. As this is a single case study, further research with larger sample sizes and randomized trials is recommended.
