Management of postburn lymphoedema by complete decongestive therapy
Aditi Deshmukh, Nipa Shah, Megha Sandeep ShethThis case report outlines a rare report of the effect of a complete decongestive therapy (CDT) and exercise regimen on a 41-year-old patient managed successfully with physiotherapy. It is a case of a 3 months post burn, 25% superficial to deep electrical burns involving the right and left upper limbs, right lower limb, face, neck, and inhalational injury, postskin grafting after healing. The patient reported for physiotherapy with a complaint of inability to make a fist and getting back to work. Swelling was observed, and the current report examines the impact of CDT in a patient with postburn lymphoedema. Assessment was done, and girth measurement was taken. The QuickDASH outcome measure was taken pre and post the intervention for functional assessment. The study found that CDT is feasible, safe, and effective for postburn lymphoedema in addition to conventional physiotherapy to reduce swelling and improve function.
