Malignant proliferating trichilemmal tumor with lymph node metastasis: A rare occurrence
Zoya Hasan, Shramana Mandal, Rajdeep Singh, Varuna MallyaABSTRACT
Proliferating trichilemmal tumors (PTTs) are rare cutaneous tumors predominantly affecting the head and neck region of elderly women. These tumors are derived from the outer root sheath of the hair follicle and show characteristic trichilemmal keratinization. When the tumor cells invade the surrounding tissue, accompanied by pleomorphism and necrosis, it is described as a malignant proliferating trichilemmal tumor (MPTT). MPTTs are rare, aggressive tumors with only a few cases reported with distant and nodal metastasis in the published literature. We hereby present a rare case of a 51-year-old female with nodal metastasis.
