Relevance of the problem is the following: recurrent genital herpes and excess body weight share common links in the body’s immune regulation mechanism. It is possible that genital herpes alters the state of the immune system, while excess body weight perpetuates the resulting imbalance. The purpose of this study is to analyze the long-term results of prolonged therapy for recurrent genital herpes in men. As for the methods we should mention that the patients included in the study were divided into two groups: the first group (n=77) consisted of men with recurrent genital herpes and overweight, while the second group (n=64) consisted of men with recurrent genital herpes and normal body weight. Men in both groups received antiviral therapy with valacyclovir at a dose of 500 mg per day for one year. The checkpoints were the following: before the start of therapy, one year after the end of therapy, and two years after the end of therapy. The frequency of relapses and the patients’ subjective experiences were assessed. The results of clinical observations conducted over a two-year period demonstrated the high safety and efficacy of long-term etiological therapy in men with recurrent genital herpes.
