Long-term intracerebroventricular ceftriaxone, a GLT-1 activator, was tested in vivo in juvenile rats without a disease model. Our results reveal three reliable effects in CA3-CA1 synapses: attenuated LTP, reduced paired-pulse indices, and a shift in the input-output curves (higher current needed for maximal response). Together, these data reveal that sustained astrocytic glutamate clearance dampens excitatory gain under strong input, extending prior slice or short-term studies to a chronic in vivo context.
