Lexical identity and its research

Danko Sipka

This paper starts from the claim that the lexemes we use give us, as members of a speech community, a kind of identity different from all other types of identity we have. The present paper assesses the ongoing research practice in this field and proposes additional research possibilities. Based on the critical evaluation of the methodology found in the ongoing research, the paper proposes the following. First, research materials should be sampled more systematically. Second, various qualitative and quantitative parameters should be deployed in its analysis. The final portion of the paper is devoted to the use of artificial intelligence in researching lexical identity.
