Lessons Learned and Concluding Thoughts on the Consequences and Nature of Inequality in the Global South
Kevin Williams, Warren A. Benfield, Dacia L. LeslieAbstract
What have the authors learnt from exploring the impact of inequality in the Global South? Inequality is multidimensional with heterogeneous effects across different countries and regions. Different dimensions of inequality interact to magnify their effects. Therefore, policy interventions that are appropriate for developed countries may not be relevant for developing countries, particularly the Global South. Following the evidence presented in this book, this chapter brings together the different ideas and suggestions on the effects of inequality in Jamaica, with implications for the Caribbean and the Global South. The authors highlight broad policy implications that may potentially mitigate the negative impact of inequality in the Global South. The authors also suggest some directions for future research that will complement the contributions of the book. This chapter takes a step forward by building on the literature on inequality in the Global South.
