Learning to take up space: A mindfulness reflection

Erin Doan, Lori Gray, Heather Noble

ABSTRACT

The attitudes of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, nonjudging, patience, trust, beginner's mind, nonstriving, and letting go, offer valuable guidance for today's strained health care environments. These principles gradually informed the development of a Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Physician Associate (PA) Fellowship program designed to support NPs and PAs transitioning into complex specialty neurology practice. Mindfulness became the fellowship's implicit foundation, encouraging psychological safety, reciprocity, and belonging. This reflection examines how mindfulness informed the fellowship's culture and the development of sustainable professional identities.
