Learning From Loosely-Coupled Research Coordination: The ION Network

There is no question that coordinated research moves a field of research forward faster. We are beginning to develop experience and comfort with what can be described as a tightly coupled model of coordinated research. In this essay, the characteristics, benefits, and challenges of a complementary approach, a loosely coupled model of coordinated research is outlined.
