Byeonghwan Bae, Seokki Lee, Sounghyouk Wi, Wonsik Lee

XR-based synthetic training environments are gaining significant attention as they overcome the limitations of traditional training methods and offer more efficient and realistic training experiences. Particularly in the defense, medical, and industrial safety sectors, the integrated application of core technologies such as Digital Twin, Edge Computing, 5G/6G communication, Artificial Intelligence, and haptic technology, combined with authoring tools like Unity3D and Unreal Engine and standard APIs like OpenXR, enables the construction of advanced training systems. This paper introduces domestic and international case studies of XR-based synthetic training environment development. Based on the identification of key technologies and tools, it proposes a hierarchical configuration concept for establishing XR-based synthetic training environments.
