Laparoscopic Management of Mesenteric Cyst: A Case Report

Abstract

A young woman with vague abdominal pain was found to have a 4 cm mesenteric cyst on imaging. Laparoscopic excision was performed, carefully avoiding injury to the bowels and mesenteric vessels. The cyst was retrieved intact in a specimen bag. The key technical point was avoiding direct grasping of the cyst wall, instead holding adjacent peritoneum and soft tissue, and dissecting it away from the cyst. The histopathology revealed no epithelial lining, consistent with a mesenteric pseudocyst. This case highlights the utility of laparoscopy in the identification and safe excision of non-palpable mesenteric cysts.
