Landscape efficiency frontiers for biodiversity, climate mitigation, and net economic value
Stephen PolaskyLandscape efficiency frontiers for biodiversity, climate mitigation, and net economic value
Balancing biodiversity, climate and economic development means making difficult choices about how land is used. Stephen Polasky, Regents Professor and Fesler-Lampert Professor of Ecological/Environmental Economics at the University of Minnesota, explores the trade-offs between competing demands for land. Meeting biodiversity, climate, and economic development goals requires careful consideration of how to utilize land and the potential tradeoffs among different goals. Land used in one way, such as to grow crops to help meet food demand, cannot also be devoted to another use, such as maintaining natural habitat for biodiversity and increased carbon sequestration.
