Iron deficiency (ID) and iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) are the two iron conditions that are most prevalent all over the world. ID and IDA, which are mostly brought on by elevated need for iron throughout gestation, are related to an elevated probability of fetal growth retardation, preterm delivery, reduced birth weight, and inferior health for newborns.

The glycoprotein known as Lactoferrin, formerly known as Lactoferrin, is a part of the transferrin family, which refers to proteins that have the capability of bind and transferrin. This review article discuss the updated knowledge about using lactoferrin alone or in combination with iron in treatment of iron deficiency anemia during the third trimester of pregnancy.
