Knowledge and attitudes towards artificial intelligence use in healthcare among the general public in Jordan

To assess the knowledge and attitude of the Jordanian public towards using artificial intelligence in healthcare.
Methods
This online cross-sectional survey study was conducted between November 2025 and February 2026 in Jordan. The questionnaire tool assessed participants’ awareness, usage, and experiences with AI in healthcare.
Results
The study included 1233 participants. More than half reported having used artificial intelligence (AI) tools for health-related purposes (646, 52.4%). AI services were most commonly used for interpreting laboratory or imaging results (511, 41.4%) and obtaining general disease information (490, 39.7%), followed by medication consultation (450, 36.5%). Most participants reported using AI to inquire about minor health conditions such as common colds or mild gastrointestinal complaints (835, 67.7%). Regarding medications, over half of the participants searched for information on over-the-counter medications (652, 52.9%), followed by antibiotics (455, 36.9%). More than half of the participants perceived AI-provided health information as clear and understandable (667, 54.1%). Most participants reported using AI-provided information primarily as a reference for health-related decisions (668, 54.2%). Participants aged 44–60 were significantly more likely to have used AI compared with those aged 18–23 years (aOR = 17.43, 95% confidence intervals (CI): 1.72–176.18, p = 0.015). Regarding education, participants with postgraduate studies were less likely to use AI compared with those with a high school degree or less (aOR = 0.05, 95% CI: 0.00–0.85, p = 0.038).
Conclusion
The Jordanian population has a good awareness of the use of AI in healthcare, with most people having either used it in the past or eager to do so in the future. Age and education were significantly associated with AI use in healthcare. These results underscore the necessity of targeted public education initiatives to encourage the safe and efficient application of AI technologies in healthcare.
