Knowledge and Action through Meaningful Enskilment
Pasi HeikkurinenAbstract
Chapter 14 links knowing to other doings and sayings in the process of becoming meaningfully skilled. It is not just any enskilment that will do the trick; meaning must be at the centre of the process. The enskilment that is meaningful for sustainability is to know how to reduce matter-energy throughput. While the chapter stresses the importance of value, it notes that equality is not a fact. Enskilment creates inequalities—between those that can and those that cannot as well—that must be solved by means of construction and deconstruction and especially by means of sustaining our skills of considering others in the edifice of cultures, the world, nature, and cosmos.
