Juxta-Articular Myxoma of the Thumb: A Rare Case Report

Anirudh Rajeevan, Basim Haris

Abstract

Juxta-articular myxoma (JAM) is a rare benign myxoid soft tissue tumor that usually arises near large joints and is uncommonly seen in the hand. A 36-year-old male with enlargement of both hands and feet since childhood presented with a 7-year history of progressive, painful enlargement of the right thumb. Clinical examination revealed gross deformity of the right thumb and grade 4 clubbing of all fingers and toes. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a lobulated soft tissue mass involving the distal thumb with severe resorption of the terminal phalanx, suggestive of a benign soft tissue tumor. The patient underwent excision biopsy of the lesion under regional block anesthesia, and histopathology confirmed JAM. This case highlights an unusual location of JAM with underlying generalized extremity enlargement and severe clubbing.
