Is the Play the Thing?

In this commentary, we consider Adler’s proposal of play as a new metaphor for identity more suited to the modern era. While this proposal opens up interesting lines of thought about identity, it may overlook earlier work around playful narration, and emphasize a product over a process approach to the idea of identity as a play.
