Iron‐Catalyzed Sulfonylation of Alkenes With Sulfonyl Chlorides

Developing an efficient and practical method for the preparation of vinyl sulfones from readily available chemical raw materials is challenging and highly desirable. Herein, we report an efficient iron‐catalyzed direct CH sulfonylation of alkenes with sulfonyl chlorides for the preparation of vinyl sulfones. This transformation was performed under mild reductive conditions with the advantages of high stereoselectivity and excellent functional group tolerance. Mechanistic studies support a radical pathway involving this key sulfonimidoyl radical species.
