Iron‐Catalyzed Radical Carbonylation of Activated Alkenes With Alkanes: A Versatile Approach to Carbonylated Oxindoles

A novel iron‐catalyzed protocol for the radical carbonylative cyclization of activated olefins has been established, with carbon monoxide serving as the carbonyl source. This method enables the efficient synthesis of structurally diverse carbonylative oxindoles through the carbonylative cyclization of simple alkanes with N ‐arylacrylamides. The protocol is straightforward and direct, avoiding the use of precious metals and pre‐functionalization of substrates. Based on control experiments, a plausible reaction mechanism is proposed. This work provides a practical approach to access carbonyl‐containing heterocycles.
