Ir(III)-Catalyzed Carbonylative Cyclization of 2-Alkenyl Anilines via ex situ Generation of CO: Access to 2-Quinolone Derivatives

Abstract

Herein, we describe a novel method for the synthesis of 2-quinolones through Ir(III)-catalyzed carbonylative cyclization of 2-alkenyl anilines. The use of Mo(CO)6 as a CO surrogate, together with a two-chamber reactor system, enables safe and efficient access to these compounds. Experimental and computational mechanistic investigations guided the rational development of this transformation. The synthetic potential of this method is further demonstrated by the synthesis of bioactive compounds.
