Investigation on Installation Methods of Cast‐in‐Place Concrete Piles in Japan From the Late Meiji to Early Showa Periods
Kazuaki Miyamoto, Fumio Kuwabara, Shuji TamuraABSTRACT
This paper examines the construction methods and applications of cast‐in‐place concrete piles developed in Europe and the United States and introduced into Japan during the late Meiji to early Showa periods. The first system introduced was the Compressol pile, followed by the Simplex, Raymond, Pedestal, and Franki piles. The Pedestal pile was initially developed in the United States and subsequently further refined in Japan. In addition, the Tanaka‐type concrete pile was invented in Japan and applied to numerous buildings. These pile systems have supported many historical structures for more than a century since their introduction.
