In this study the efficacy of herbal-based mouthwash and spray (GlimoTM, Haltron Pharmaceutical Industry and Trade Inc., Istanbul, Turkey) antibacterial and antifungal effects was assessed utilizing conventional C. albicans, S. mutans, S. aureus, and E. faecalis strains. 1 mL volume of spray and mouthwash with 1 mL of strains prepared according to 0.5 mL McFarland combined in sterile tubes. Efficacy was investigated at 3, 5, 10, 15, and 30 min. The spray formula has demonstrated effectiveness by inhibiting the growth of all microorganisms from the third minute onwards in comparison to the positive control. Mouthwash was most effective at 30 min, demonstrating a reduction in colony populations of C. albicans of 70.6%, S. mutans of 97.2%, S. aureus of 81.7%, and E. faecalis of 56.8%. Glimo mouthwash and spray formula were found to be fast and effective on the bacteria and fungi. A wide-spectrum antibiotic effect has been observed. These findings made us believe that Glimo could function as a promising safe and biocompatible alternative for conventional chemical agents in oral hygiene.
