Investigation of Self-Talk in Visually Impaired (B2–B3) Male Futsal Players According to Various Variables
Şirin Pepe, Sevim Akşit, Yeşer Eroğlu Eskicioğlu, Hande Baba Kaya, Levent Görün This study examined whether self-talk behaviours among visually impaired male futsal athletes varied by age, visual impairment percentage, years of active sports participation, and training frequency. A quantitative research design based on the descriptive survey model was employed. The sample comprised 107 male athletes with B2 and B3 visual impairment classifications competing in Futsal 1st League teams. All 180 athletes registered in the league were invited, and 107 athletes participated voluntarily Data were collected using a Personal Information Form and the Turkish version of the Functions of Self-Talk Questionnaire (FSTQ). One-way ANOVA was conducted to analyse normally distributed data, and the Scheffé post hoc test was used to identify the sources of significant differences. The findings indicated that self-talk scores differed significantly between groups according to age, the percentage of visual impairment, and years of active sports participation, whereas no statistically significant differences were found between groups based on training frequency. These findings describe group differences in self-reported self-talk; possible explanations related to self-regulation and compensatory processes are discussed as theoretical interpretations and hypotheses for future research.
