Investigating the relationship between dental caries, microbial plaque, and unknown infertility in men and women: A case–control study

Tooth decay is one of the most common chronic diseases worldwide. Very few studies were conducted on the relationship between dental caries and infertility, and the results of those conducted on this topic are contradictory. The present study investigated the relationship among dental caries, microbial plaque, and unknown infertility in men and women in Hamadan City.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
This case–control study was conducted on 332 fertile and infertile women and men in 2022. Interviews and tests were used as part of the data-collecting process, and a three-part questionnaire served as the data collection instrument. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software version 20.
RESULTS:
The mean decayed, missing, and filled teeth of the male case and control group was 11.36 and 9.6, respectively. This figure for the female case and control groups was 11.33 and 8.96, respectively (
CONCLUSION:
Based on the results, it is necessary to educate the general public, especially couples of childbearing age, to observe oral and dental hygiene and seek the detect dental caries on time by midwives and dentists in health centers.
