Intra-Increment Wood Properties Variation in Compression Wood Rings of Cedrus deodara (Roxb.) Loud.

Intra-increment wood properties variation in compression wood rings of Cedrus deodara (Roxb.) Loud. Is studied with the objective of locating the sampling stratum which is least influenced by compression wood. The annual rings with compression wood show a localized and gradual decrease in tracheid length and a localized and steep increase in wood density in compression wood zone. The change in tracheid length and wood density from last-formed latewood of one annual ring to the first-formed earlywood of next annual ring is abrupt. Results of the present experiments indicate the first-formed earlywood of an annual ring is suitable sampling stratum for the comparison of these wood properties.
