Chapter 3 sets the premise for the pursuit of disclosing knowledge. Libidinal forces are at play when scientists embark on the journey of knowledge production. At its best, new knowledge—that is, a novel and relevant combination of facts for someone—creates a breakthrough. Scientific breakthroughs are a particular kind of desire aiming to penetrate the fabric of facts. Facts are considered malleable where the principle is general enough to communicate with others. There are distinct impacts in the multitude of scientific practices. With different degrees of knowledge, science is not a monolith with only the desired impacts. Love and wisdom are in the same process as factuality.
