Interventions Using Various Natural Antioxidant Therapies to Manage Male Fertility: A Review
Vanrohlu Nicy, Rajesh Kumar Kharwar, Guruswami Gurusubramanian, Vikas Kumar RoyThe male reproductive system has an antioxidant defense system that protects against oxidative stress. Oxidative stress causes male reproductive dysfunction, including impaired spermatogenesis, steroidogenesis, and sperm function. Natural antioxidants are vital to reproductive function and normal semen quality. This review highlights new insights into the physiological role of antioxidants in male infertility and examines the latest and ongoing research integrating male fertility and natural antioxidants to improve understanding of their role in male infertility. To compile research on the effects of antioxidants on sperm quality, a comprehensive literature review was conducted in the electronic databases PubMed and Google Scholar, using keywords such as plant extract antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and nutrients associated with male infertility and fertility. Evidence indicates that antioxidants such as vitamins, polyphenols, and trace elements improve sperm health, reduce DNA damage, and support testicular function by modulating apoptosis, mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammation, ultimately promoting male reproductive health. Overall, antioxidant therapy shows promise in reducing oxidative stress-related reproductive damage and boosting male fertility.
