International partnerships for green chemistry education
Glenn A. Hurst, Juliana L. VidalAs the global community works to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and its associated targets, the field of green chemistry provides an actionable framework in which chemists worldwide can promote innovation while protecting human health and the environment. While the integration of green chemistry into the higher education curricula directly supports the achievement of SDG #4 (Quality Education), the role of global partnerships, as described by SDG #17 (Partnerships for the Goals), is a crucial and yet overlooked driver for long-lasting systemic change towards a sustainable future. In this work, international programs, collaborative networks, online initiatives, accreditation frameworks of major scientific societies, and partnership models are highlighted as catalysts for the adoption of green chemistry across diverse educational contexts and regions. These models include Transnational Education (TNE), articulation agreements ( e.g. , 2 + 2 and 3 + 1 models), and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), and provide strategies to facilitate student mobility and expertise sharing worldwide. These approaches are combined and summarised in an action plan for transitioning from individual instructional efforts toward a globally connected community of transformation, empowering the next generation of chemists to become changemakers and address environmental and societal challenges through collaborative, systemic, and global action.
