Intergroup conflict and the evolution of animal societies

INTERGROUP investigates how intergroup conflict shapes animal societies. Using long-term field studies of banded mongooses, laboratory experiments with dampwood termites, and new theoretical models, we examine conflict initia-tion, collective dynamics, and evolutionary consequences. Combining tracking, drones, AI, and genetics, the project will uncover general principles of conflict, co-operation, and fusion across taxa, with implications for human evolution.
