Interaction of charged particle beams with plasmons in a two-dimensional electron gas

A theory is formulated for the interaction of charged particle beams with a two-dimensional electron gas localized in the vicinity of a delta-function potential well U(y) = U0δ(y). A kinetic equation is derived for plasmons in the two-dimensional gas, the conditions for the onset of plasmon instability are given, and corresponding expressions are found for the instability growth rate.
