Integration of Manipur's Architectural Motifs in Traditional Handloom kurtis A Study on Design and Cultural Preservation
Tracy Thokchom, Surabhi MahajanThis research paper explores the intersection of architectural heritage and contemporary fashion by adapting monumental motifs for kurti design. It examines how architectural elements from Manipur's significant monuments are translated into wearable textile patterns. The study documented designs from eight Manipur monuments, adapted motifs via CAD, and produced kurtis using traditional weaving. Consumer acceptance was assessed through a survey of ninety respondents (aged 18–25 years) in Punjab. Results showed a strong preference for kurtis blending traditional motifs with contemporary aesthetics, especially those featuring pastel colours and intricate geometric patterns. The study highlights the potential for preserving cultural heritage through innovative fashion, aligning with modern consumer preferences.
