Integrating visual arts, soundscape and history to teach Eitarō Ishigaki’s Bonus March art

Kyungeun Lim, Sohyun An

This article examines how integrating technology, the arts and social studies can enhance art teacher education for social justice. The authors use emerging technologies like soundscapes and Makey Makey circuit boards to create immersive and interdisciplinary lessons. Centring the work of a Japanese immigrant artist, Eitarō Ishigaki, the approach fosters deeper historical understanding and critical engagement with arts and social studies content. It equips pre-service teachers with tools to challenge dominant narratives and advocate for social justice in their classrooms.
