Integrating dermal and muscular regeneration : the clinical role of Sofwave and Pure Impact VIP in modern aesthetics

Background:

Energy-based devices have become integral to contemporary aesthetic practice for skin rejuvenation, tissue tightening and body contouring. Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) technologies have evolved through multiple generations, with newer platforms offering increasingly sophisticated approaches to muscle conditioning and structural support. Sofwave utilises Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPERB™) technology for dermal collagen stimulation, while Pure Impact VIP represents a fourth-generation EMS platform employing plyometric muscle stimulation to enhance muscle tone and firmness.

Objective:

To review the mechanisms of action, clinical applications, evidence base and practical role of Sofwave and Pure Impact VIP within modern aesthetic practice.

Methodology:

A narrative clinical review of literature relating to ultrasound-based skin tightening and electrical muscle stimulation technologies was undertaken, alongside evaluation of current regulatory indications and clinical applications.

Results:

Current evidence supports Sofwave as an effective non-invasive treatment for mild-to-moderate skin laxity, facial lines and wrinkles, brow lift, and acne scarring, with minimal downtime. Emerging applications of Pure Impact VIP may support muscle conditioning and structural rejuvenation, particularly in patients experiencing muscle loss and tissue laxity following GLP-1-associated weight reduction.

Conclusion:

Sofwave and Pure Impact VIP represent complementary regenerative technologies that address both dermal and muscular components of ageing, offering particular relevance within the evolving post-GLP-1 aesthetic landscape.
