In a fungal-algal-bacterial consortium, cadmium-exposed Euglena mutabilis remains viable by sequestering cadmium in chloroplasts, accumulating paramylon and reprogramming metal transporter, photosynthetic and hormone pathways to coordinate whole-community metal detoxification.
