Integrated Management of Rhizome Rot in Ginger

Jai Singh

Rhizome rot of Ginger is an important biotic stress which causes severe yield loss. To manage this disease, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh evaluated integrated management modules at farmer's field in participatory mode. Out of four treatments, T3 having improved variety (Suprabha) + Rhizome treatment during storage and pre sowing stage with Ridomil MZ-68 WG @ 0.2% + Sowing on Ridge + Soil treatment with Trichoderma viride (@ 5 kg/ha) enriched poultry refuse @ 100q/ha + 2–3 drenching with Ridomil MZ -68 WG @ 0.25% at early onset of disease at 15 d interval gave highest reduction in Rhizome rot with maximum yield over control (T0 - Farmer's practice) followed by T2 (Rhizome treatment during storage and pre sowing stage with Ridomil MZ-68 WG @ 0.2% + Soil treatment with Trichoderma viride (@ 5 kg/ha) enriched neem cake @ 5 q/ha + 2–3 drenching with Ridomil MZ -68 WG @ 0.25% at early onset of disease at 15 d interval). An integrated management module combining improved varietal selection, ridge sowing, prophylactic chemical treatments, and Trichoderma viride enriched soil applications successfully mitigates ginger rhizome rot. This specific combination can be strongly recommended for farmers to minimize biotic stress and achieve maximum rhizome yield compared to traditional practices.
